ArtyA Unveils Purity Moissanite Curvy Tourbillon
ArtyA, a Geneva-based independent watchmaker, has once again pushed the boundaries of horological design with its latest creation, the Purity Moissanite Curvy Tourbillon. This timepiece exemplifies the brand's commitment to utilizing unconventional materials, specifically moissanite, to craft visually stunning and highly functional watches. The new model features a tonneau-shaped case, a departure from the previously seen round cases, which further accentuates the innovative use of this remarkable material and beautifully frames a suspended tourbillon movement.
Moissanite, a material of extraterrestrial origin first identified by Henri Moissan in an Arizona meteorite crater in 1893, is celebrated for its extraordinary hardness, second only to diamonds. While naturally rare, laboratory-grown moissanite mirrors its natural counterpart in chemical and structural properties. Its extreme resistance to scratches and a melting point exceeding 2,700°C make it an incredibly challenging material to work with in watchmaking. However, ArtyA has mastered this difficulty, transforming it into a luxurious and durable watch case.
The visual appeal of the champagne-hued moissanite is truly captivating. Its dispersion index, which is double that of a diamond, allows for an astonishing breakdown of light into a spectrum of colors. Each of the case's 65 facets acts as a tiny prism, turning the tonneau case into a dynamic sculpture of light. The 'Curvy Tourbillon' geometry further enhances this effect, with polished surfaces and subtle optical distortions that deepen the visual perception of the intricate mechanism and the rotating tourbillon.
Encased within the 41mm by 42mm by 13mm moissanite structure is the PUR-T3 Curvy Tourbillon manual-winding caliber. This movement, designed to conform to the case's unique curves, was developed in partnership with Télôs SA, a renowned high-end movement manufacturer. It features off-centered hour and minute indications on a pink ring at 12 o'clock, complementing a high-frequency 4Hz tourbillon located at 6 o'clock.
Further technical refinements include double barrels, which are mounted in parallel to ensure consistent torque and a substantial power reserve of 65 to 72 hours. A notable design element is the oversized tourbillon cage bridge, spanning 17mm, significantly larger than typical tourbillons. The movement's contemporary finishing, featuring sandblasted bridges and plates, alongside shotblasted components and meticulously hand-beveled edges, highlights the brand's dedication to both aesthetic and mechanical excellence.
This exclusive timepiece is a limited edition, with only nine pieces available globally. Each watch is paired with a light brown nubuck leather strap secured with an ArtyA pin buckle. With a retail price of CHF 170,000 / EUR 189,000, it represents a pinnacle of innovative watchmaking and artistic expression.
This exceptional limited edition watch showcases ArtyA's pioneering spirit in independent watchmaking. The brand's audacious use of moissanite, combined with the sophisticated engineering of the Curvy Tourbillon movement, results in a timepiece that is not only a functional instrument but also a dazzling display of light and form. It reaffirms ArtyA's position at the forefront of combining cutting-edge materials with traditional craftsmanship to create truly unique luxury watches.
