Bangalore Watch Company Unveils Peninsula Carbon: A Fusion of Innovation and Environmental Consciousness

May 26, 2026, 11:41 AM

In the realm of modern horology, Bangalore Watch Company's latest creation, the Peninsula Carbon, stands out by reimagining the use of carbon fiber. While many contemporary timepieces incorporate forged carbon for its strength and lightness, this new offering ventures into an innovative direction. The brand introduces ReforgeCarbon™, a proprietary dial material composed partly of recovered carbon black, salvaged from industrial byproducts that would otherwise pollute the atmosphere. This advanced material, produced by compressing recovered carbon black with forged carbon fiber in a thermoset resin, results in a dial that is not only robust and lightweight but also distinctively crafted. Its purpose transcends simple environmental messaging, aiming instead to provoke thought on the intricate connection between burgeoning cities and carbon output.

Co-founder Mercy Amalraj explains that this collection marks a shift in focus from natural landscapes, celebrated in the 2025 Peninsula series, to urban environments. She emphasizes that cities, despite housing a small fraction of the global population, are major contributors to the carbon footprint. The Peninsula Carbon acts as a poignant reminder of this reality. Co-founder Nirupesh Joshi underscores the watch's role as a 'cultural statement,' acknowledging the complex interplay of urbanization and industrialization rather than presenting an overly simplistic eco-solution. Each dial is a unique masterpiece, bearing a distinct texture and marbling pattern from the ReforgeCarbon™ compression process, blending an industrial aesthetic with the classic, smooth design of the Peninsula collection.

The timepiece boasts a 44mm stainless steel case with a 13.75mm thickness and a 31mm lug-to-lug distance, ensuring comfortable wear. It offers 200-meter water resistance and features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Inside, the Swiss Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement provides a 41-hour power reserve and date function. The diamond-cut, rhodium-plated hands and indices are illuminated with BGW9 Grade-A Super-LumiNova, complemented by a screw-down crown bearing the BWC logo. A high-density fluor elastomer rubber strap enhances its durability and suitability for everyday use. Developed in collaboration with Carbon Craft, a company specializing in recovered carbon technologies, the recovered carbon black utilized in the watch originates from pyrolysis processing of end-of-life industrial materials, preventing their environmental release. This initiative further solidifies Bangalore Watch Company's reputation for infusing modern Indian narratives, material innovation, and contemporary industrial themes into its creations.

The Bangalore Watch Company Peninsula Carbon is more than a time-telling device; it's a testament to ingenuity and a call to reflection. By transforming industrial waste into a sophisticated design element, the company exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to manufacturing. This watch encourages us to consider our collective impact on the environment and inspires innovative solutions for a more sustainable future. It’s a powerful statement that style and environmental responsibility can coalesce, driving positive change and fostering a deeper appreciation for conscious creation.
