Breitling's Chronomat Collection: A Modern Reimagining of a Classic

Breitling has unveiled a refreshed Chronomat collection, breathing new life into its celebrated sports watch. This updated line, consisting of 22 distinct timepieces for men and women, skillfully merges the Chronomat's historic appeal with advanced horological innovations, promising enhanced comfort and a refined aesthetic.

The Chronomat's legacy dates back to the 1980s when it was conceived in collaboration with the Italian Air Force's Frecce Tricolori aerobatics team. Designed to withstand extreme G-forces in the cockpit while maintaining a sophisticated appearance, it stood out as a mechanical chronograph in an era dominated by quartz movements. The new collection pays homage to this heritage, refining signature elements such as the rider tabs and the Rouleaux bracelet, now featuring a fully integrated case and bracelet design while still allowing for strap interchangeability. Practical improvements like a micro-adjustment system on steel and two-tone bracelets further underscore Breitling's commitment to wearability and ergonomic excellence.

Highlighting the new series are three distinct models: the Chronomat B01 42, which boasts a slimmer profile and improved legibility with its Breitling Caliber 01 movement and a 70-hour power reserve, available in striking variations like platinum with an icy-blue dial. The collection also introduces the Chronomat Automatic B31 40, marking the first 40mm time-and-date Chronomat, powered by the new Caliber B31 with a 78-hour power reserve, offered in several vibrant dial colors. Completing the trio is the elegant Chronomat Automatic 36, equipped with a 42-hour power reserve and available in luxurious mother-of-pearl dials and diamond-set bezels, catering to a desire for refined sparkle. Breitling CEO Georges Kern affirmed that these changes evolve the design while staying true to the watch's core identity, with brand ambassadors like Austin Butler showcasing the new lineup, which ranges from $5,950 to $49,900.
