Christopher Ward's Sealander Series Receives Significant Updates: Enhanced Design and Functionality

Christopher Ward is rolling out substantial improvements to its foundational Sealander collection, a range celebrated for its accessibility, Swiss craftsmanship, and exceptional value. These upgrades encompass more streamlined case profiles, enhanced internal mechanisms, and advanced bracelet designs, poised to elevate the series' appeal to both new and existing enthusiasts.

The Sealander GMT line has undergone a significant transformation, now featuring a more elegant, slender case with sharp, faceted lugs that emphasize its sporty aesthetic. Previously available in 36mm and 39mm, a new 42mm size has been introduced to cater to diverse preferences. The fixed 24-hour bezel, adorned with black lacquered numerals, has been re-engineered for improved readability and a more pronounced look. Notable reductions in case thickness, from 11.15mm to 10.9mm for the 36mm model and 11.85mm to 11.3mm for the 39mm, contribute to enhanced wearability, with the new 42mm variant measuring 11.5mm thin.

Aesthetic changes extend to the polished-lacquer GMT dials, where the minute track has been simplified, retaining only hash marks for a cleaner appearance. The polished indexes are now more elongated and tapered, complementing the redesigned, larger GMT hand. The date wheel seamlessly matches the dial colors, and for the first time, the 'Sealander' name is prominently displayed on the dial, with 'GMT' inscribed beneath. The hour and minute hands have been subtly resized, and the iconic 'Trident' counterweight on the seconds hand has been removed, resulting in a more minimalist design. Available dial colors include white and sky blue across all three sizes, black for the 39mm and 42mm models, and pistachio green exclusively for the 39mm. Powering these GMT watches is the reliable Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement, offering a 56-hour power reserve and a precision of -5/+12 seconds per day.

Christopher Ward has also innovated with its new 'iLink' bracelet system, designed for effortless, tool-free link adjustment. This patented mechanism replaces traditional screws and pins with a push-button release on each removable link, simplifying customization. The iLink system will be integrated into both the 'Bader' (three-link) and 'Consort' (five-link) steel bracelets, which also feature micro-adjustment clasps. The Bader bracelet's clasp has been slimmed by 1mm, further enhancing comfort and wearability for all Sealander models.

The Sealander Automatic series benefits from similar case refinements and the new bracelet options, alongside a significant movement upgrade. It now incorporates Sellita's advanced SW200-2 Power+ calibre, extending the power reserve from 38 to an impressive 65 hours. The Automatic models also showcase a polished bezel, and the removal of crown guards on the screw-down crown contributes to a sleeker profile. Case thickness for the 36mm model has been reduced from 11.05mm to 10.6mm, and the lugs feature improved finishing with distinct brushed flanks and polished facets.

The Automatic dials adopt the sophisticated design elements of the GMT, with diamond-polished, tapered indexes replacing the previous blockier forms. The hands have been refined for a slimmer look, and a raised, applied date window at the six o'clock position enhances balance and visual appeal. Both hands and indexes are equipped with Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility in low light, maintaining the robust functionality expected of a sport watch, including 150 meters of water resistance. Dial color choices span white, black, and sky blue for both 36mm and 39mm sizes. A new pink dial is exclusive to the 36mm version, while pistachio green is available only on the 39mm model. Prices range from $1,395 for the GMT on a leather strap to $1,675 on a Consort steel bracelet, and from $1,150 for the Automatic on a leather strap to $1,430 on a Consort bracelet. All new Sealander models will be available for purchase starting April 30th.
