Our initial encounter with the Inflection Shuò left a profound impression, primarily due to its breathtaking solid 18K gold dials. Crafted by Coralie Mercier of GT Cadrans using the intricate hand tremblage technique, each dial showcases thousands of minute, irregular facets. This meticulous process involves a graver constantly moving across the substrate, resulting in a shimmering surface that brilliantly catches every ray of light. The effect is distinctly different from standard models, and the precision required in this error-intolerant technique underscores the exceptional artistry involved.

Harmonious Design: A Symphony of Numerals and Hands

Encircling the tremblage base is a concentrically brushed hour sector, available in either 18K white or rose gold, depending on the watch version. The dial layout subtly references California dials but introduces innovative elements. The upper half features custom serif Arabic numerals, while the lower half displays elegantly hand-calligraphed Chinese numerals. All numerals, along with the blued steel leaf hands, are filled in a striking blue, creating a cohesive visual theme. An outer ring with additional tremblage and a precise huiwen border frame the entire composition. Atelier Wen's signature in blue at 12 o'clock and Massena Lab's name in white gold at 6 o'clock complete this unique and captivating display.

The Unconventional Charm of the Tantalum Case

The Inflection Shuò retains the distinctive 40mm x 45mm tantalum case from the original Inflection, maintaining a slender profile with a thickness of 10.25mm including the sapphire crystal. What distinguishes this design is its deliberate avoidance of flat surfaces; nearly every part of the case is curved. A concave bezel and ridged mid-case further enhance its visual depth. Tantalum, known for its cool blue-gray hue (darker than titanium), provides remarkable density and superior corrosion resistance. The screw-down crown mirrors the dial's gold accents, featuring tantalum for the white gold variant and rose gold for the two-tone version. Additionally, the case offers a practical 100-meter water resistance.

Seamless Comfort and Patented Adjustability

The integrated bracelet continues the curved aesthetic of the case. Its outer links feature vertical brushing, while the center links are mirror-polished. Notably, concave chamfers are present throughout the bracelet, adding to its sophisticated appeal. A patent-pending micro-adjustment system within the clasp allows wearers to easily fine-tune the fit without tools, ensuring optimal comfort as wrist size fluctuates throughout the day. This attention to ergonomic detail, combined with the watch's substantial feel, makes it exceptionally comfortable for daily wear.

The GP03300 Movement: A Blend of Precision and Poetic Design

Powering the Inflection Shuò is a bespoke Girard-Perregaux GP03300 automatic movement. Its ruthenium-plated bridges are artfully shaped with sweeping curves, inspired by traditional Chinese wind motifs. Atelier Wen's dedication to high-level watchmaking is evident in the dramatic anglage and sharp angles defining the bridge edges, complemented by laser-etched wavy stripes and contrasting black-polished screws. A striking skeletonized rotor, plated in 5N rose gold, further enhances the movement's aesthetic. This caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), offers approximately 48 hours of power reserve, and features 27 jewels, adjusted to five positions for superior accuracy.

Wearing the Inflection Shuò: A Luminous Experience

The inherent density of tantalum gives the watch a substantial yet comfortable presence on the wrist. The case's comprehensive curvature and short lug-to-lug distance contribute to its excellent wearability. The bracelet's design, conforming naturally to the arm, along with the micro-adjustable clasp, ensures a perfect fit. Legibility is optimized by a double-domed sapphire crystal, treated with five layers of anti-reflective coating, providing clear visibility from any angle. Availability and Vision: A Testament to Collaborative Excellence

The Inflection Shuò is a limited edition, with only 50 examples produced. While the 10 versions featuring white gold hour rings and crowns have already been acquired by returning clients, variants with rose gold components are still available for order. Priced at €35,900 / US$44,100 before taxes, deliveries are scheduled to commence in early 2027. Atelier Wen founder Robin Tallendier emphasizes this project as a demonstration of Chinese watchmaking's capability to achieve the highest contemporary standards. William Massena highlights that this marks Massena Lab's inaugural collaboration with a Chinese watchmaker.
