Frederique Constant, a name synonymous with accessible luxury in horology, has introduced a special collection of two distinct watches designed to honor the French Foreign Legion. This initiative underscores the brand's commitment to classic aesthetics and internal manufacturing capabilities, now enriched by a collaboration that reflects courage and adventurous spirit. The collection, featuring adaptations of the Highlife Automatic and Classics Index Small Seconds, subtly integrates the Legion's emblematic details and color palette, emphasizing the camaraderie and shared identity celebrated by the historic military unit.

Established in Geneva in 1988, Frederique Constant has carved a niche in the global watchmaking landscape by offering elegant timepieces at competitive prices. Under the umbrella of the Citizen Group since 2016, the brand continues to innovate, developing and assembling a growing range of intricate movements at its Plan-les-Ouates facility. The founder, Peter Stas, embarked on a daring journey from his native Netherlands to Switzerland, driven by a profound passion for horology. The French Foreign Legion, founded in 1831, is an elite unit of the French Army renowned for recruiting individuals from diverse nationalities. For nearly two centuries, its regiments have distinguished themselves through global operations, guided by principles of discipline, loyalty, and collective identity. The Legion's motto, "Legio Patria Nostra" (The Legion is our homeland), encapsulates this deep sense of belonging. Frederique Constant’s collaboration aims to highlight these profound values, shifting the focus from combat to the lasting bonds forged among comrades and the importance of family connections that follow military service.

The first offering in this commemorative series is the Highlife Automatic x French Foreign Legion. This timepiece presents a refined iteration of the Highlife Automatic, housed within a 39mm stainless-steel case that is 10.34mm thick. Its design combines brushed and polished surfaces, featuring a domed sapphire crystal and water resistance up to 100 meters, maintaining the robust nature of the Highlife collection. The solid case back is secured by four screws and proudly displays a Legion engraving along with an individual edition number, adding to its exclusivity.

The dial, with its subtle sandblasted finish, features a recessed seven-flame grenade emblem of the Légion Étrangère positioned at 6 o'clock. Eschewing traditional hour markers, the watch relies on a black outer minutes/seconds track to create an instrumental aesthetic. Time is indicated by polished silver-hued hour and minute hands, both enhanced with luminous material for readability in low light, alongside a framed date aperture at 3 o'clock. A polished central silver seconds hand extends to the track, ensuring precise timekeeping. Powering this watch is the FC-303 automatic movement, which boasts a 68-hour power reserve and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This movement is based on the La Joux-Perret G100, a robust alternative to the ETA 2824-2. The Highlife Automatic comes with three interchangeable strap options: a brown leather strap with a crocodile pattern, a stainless-steel bracelet, and a black rubber strap, all equipped with a quick-release system. This model is limited to 888 pieces, a number symbolic of the Legion's ceremonial marching pace and its eight combat regiments, and is priced at EUR 1,995.

The second timepiece, the Classics Index Small Seconds Automatic x French Foreign Legion, takes a more formal approach. It features a 39mm polished stainless-steel case with a thickness of 11.65mm, offering 50 meters of water resistance. The threaded case back is engraved with the Legion emblem. The charcoal-grained dial is accented with a beige and red minute track, complemented by applied luminous hour markers. A small seconds display at 6 o'clock also incorporates the Legion emblem, while central hour and minute hands, treated with white luminous material, ensure clear time indication.

Underneath its elegant facade, the Classics Index Small Seconds is driven by the FC-530 automatic caliber, based on the Sellita SW260-1. This movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, contains 31 jewels, and provides a 38-hour power reserve. The watch is presented on a five-link stainless-steel bracelet and includes an additional brown leather strap, both utilizing quick-release mechanisms. This edition is also limited to 888 units and is available at a price of EUR 1,595.

Both limited-edition timepieces are presented in an elegant wooden box, accompanied by a removable embroidered patch, commemorating the unique collaboration. A significant aspect of this partnership is Frederique Constant’s commitment to philanthropy: a portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to the French Foreign Legion Mutual Aid Association (FELE), an organization dedicated to supporting former Legionnaires and their families. This initiative not only honors the Legion's legacy but also provides tangible assistance to its members, reinforcing the values of solidarity and support.
