A Legacy of Collaboration and Innovation

The esteemed Singaporean watch magazine SJX, led by journalist Su Jiaxian, has once again partnered with the Austrian independent watchmaker Habring² to introduce a remarkable collaborative timepiece. This new limited edition marks the culmination of a planned trilogy, skillfully integrating the celestial theme of the Erwin "Star" with the monopusher design characteristic of the Chrono-Felix "Medicus." This iteration elevates the complexity by incorporating a perpetual calendar into Habring's monopusher chronograph, drawing inspiration from the Chrono Felix Perpetual base model.

Crafting the Celestial Timepiece: Design and Dimensions

Building upon a well-established foundation, the SJX team has infused the Chrono Felix Perpetual "Star" with a deeply personal design aesthetic, maintaining continuity with the initial piece of the trilogy, the Erwin "Star." This watch utilizes the Chrono Felix Perpetual as its core, a sophisticated evolution of the classic monopusher Chrono Felix. Encased in stainless steel with a meticulous blend of brushed and polished finishes, the watch measures a harmonious 38.5mm in diameter and a balanced 13mm in height, which is notably well-proportioned for a perpetual calendar chronograph. The increased thickness required by the perpetual calendar module is ingeniously concealed by a triple-stepped bezel, which also discreetly integrates the recessed pushers for calendar adjustments—a clever compromise in module-based construction.

Dial Aesthetics: Where Stars Align

The dial of this timepiece is where the distinctive SJX influence truly shines. Opting for a classic and captivating gilt-style appearance, the design features a lustrous glossy black lacquered base. Gold-plated accents adorn every element of the dial, including markers, hands, and tracks. Even the moon phase disc, traditionally in dark blue, is gold-plated to perfectly complement the star-shaped indices and features a frosted moon motif. The slightly recessed sub-dials provide an elegant contrast with their matte finish and concentric patterns, adding depth to the overall composition. A central highlight is the arrangement of eight golden, applied stars serving as hour markers, reminiscent of the iconic Rolex ref. 6088 Galaxy. This detail imbues the dial with a unique and bold character, despite being densely packed with indications: moon phase and 30-minute chronograph counter at 12 o'clock, date at 9 o'clock, day of the week at 3 o'clock, and month and leap year at 6 o'clock, alongside central leaf-shaped hands for hours and minutes, and the chronograph's central seconds hand.

The Heart of Precision: Movement and Mechanics

Powering this intricate watch is the calibre A11CP, which ingeniously combines Habring²'s A11 chronograph base with a Dubois-Depraz perpetual calendar module. This module has been specially modified to align with the monopusher configuration of the base movement and to minimize the number of separate calendar correctors; the crown now manages the adjustment of the day of the week. The base movement itself is a fascinating advancement, representing a significant evolution of the Valjoux 7750. A majority of its components have been enhanced and are now manufactured either in-house or by specialized independent suppliers. This results in a movement engineered for exceptional robustness, ease of maintenance, and superior mechanical and visual quality compared to its Valjoux predecessor. Operating at a frequency of 4Hz, the movement provides a 48-hour power reserve when fully wound. The aesthetic refinement is further highlighted by the decoration, which includes steel chronograph levers meticulously finished by German independent watchmaker Pöhlmann-Bresan, offering a far more appealing visual than the standard 7750.
