New Horizons: A Detailed Look at the IWC "Le Petit Prince" 20th Anniversary Editions

IWC's latest unveiling, honoring the 20th anniversary of its collaboration with the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry estate, introduces a captivating array of six Pilot's Watch models inspired by "The Little Prince." These timepieces, presented in April 2026, feature the iconic deep blue sunray dials, reminiscent of the celestial expanse. The collection spans diverse preferences with variations in size and complexity.

Among the releases are two distinguished Mark XX models. The stainless steel version (ref. IW328221), measuring 40mm in diameter with a 10.8mm profile, is priced at approximately €5,800 / US$5,800 / £4,800. Its counterpart, crafted from luxurious 18K 5N red gold (ref. IW328301), boasts a slightly slimmer 40 x 10.1mm case and commands a price of around €23,100 / US$22,500 / £18,100. Both Mark XX references are powered by the automatic IWC caliber 32112, offering an impressive 120-hour power reserve. They are fitted with blue rubber straps featuring a quick-release system. The gold model showcases a tinted sapphire display case back with a depiction of the Little Prince, while the steel version features the same illustration engraved on a solid steel case back.

The collection also includes two steel chronograph models. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Le Petit Prince (ref. IW378011), with a 43mm diameter and 14.8mm thickness, is available for approximately €8,000 / US$7,700 / £6,200. A slightly more compact option, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Le Petit Prince (ref. IW388120), measures 41mm in diameter and 14.5mm thick, priced at around €7,800 / US$7,500 / £5,900. These chronographs are equipped with the caliber 69385, boasting a column-wheel mechanism and a 46-hour power reserve. Like the Mark XX, they feature dial-matching blue rubber straps.

For those preferring a smaller, more elegant timepiece, the 36 × 9.9mm Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36 Le Petit Prince (ref. IW458802) is offered at about €5,400 / US$5,300 / £4,190. It runs on the caliber 32102, also providing a 120-hour power reserve. This model features a blue calfskin strap and a solid steel case back with the engraved Little Prince motif. All steel and gold models maintain a water resistance of 100 meters.

A standout piece in this anniversary collection is the striking Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Le Petit Prince (ref. IW389410), housed in a white ceramic case. This bold chronograph measures 41.9mm in diameter and 15.5mm in thickness, with a price point of approximately €12,900 / US$12,900 / £10,100. While its screw-down crown, pushers, and case back are crafted from titanium, the watch incorporates a soft-iron inner case for magnetic field protection. The deep blue sunburst dial features a gradient effect, complemented by white-printed numerals and rhodium-plated hands with luminous material for optimal legibility. Powering this unique piece is the in-house caliber 69380, a 4Hz automatic column-wheel chronograph movement with a 46-hour power reserve. Unlike its counterparts, this white ceramic model comes paired with a matching white rubber strap, equipped with IWC’s convenient EasX-Change system for effortless strap changes.

This comprehensive collection beautifully encapsulates the spirit of "The Little Prince" through a range of meticulously crafted timepieces, each a testament to IWC's enduring legacy of precision watchmaking and narrative artistry.

The unveiling of IWC's "Le Petit Prince" 20th-anniversary collection sparks a fascinating conversation about the balance between heritage and innovation in luxury watchmaking. On one hand, the consistent use of the deep blue dial and the iconic "Little Prince" engraving maintains a strong connection to the series' established aesthetic and emotional appeal, which loyal fans undoubtedly appreciate. This reinforces the brand's commitment to storytelling through its designs. On the other hand, the introduction of a white ceramic case for one of the chronographs demonstrates a willingness to push boundaries and explore new materials and contemporary styles. This duality suggests a thoughtful strategy: honoring tradition while simultaneously attracting new enthusiasts with modern interpretations. It's a reminder that even timeless narratives can find fresh expression through evolving craftsmanship, ensuring their relevance for generations to come.
