Following previous notable works, Van Roij's latest endeavor pays homage to one of the most distinctive Ferraris ever conceived: the 1972 Daytona Shooting Brake. This ambitious project, now unveiled after years of dedicated development, represents a masterful blend of historical reverence and modern engineering, built upon the powerful foundation of a Ferrari 599 GTB.

The esteemed Royal Automobile Club and the celebrated Goodwood Festival of Speed played host to the public debut of the Niels van Roij Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage. This vehicle is a meticulous recreation, inspired by the singular 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Shooting Brake. That original masterpiece, commissioned by Luigi Chinetti Jr., America's influential Ferrari importer, was crafted by Panther Westwinds. It featured a distinctive black finish, a tan interior, and an unconventional Shooting Brake body style, characterized by its extended roofline, twin gullwing-style rear doors, and a generous glass tailgate.

Niels van Roij’s contemporary interpretation, utilizing a Ferrari 599 GTB as its donor car, cleverly integrates the spirit of the 1972 model with a larger, more modern platform. The underlying Ferrari 599 GTB, produced between 2006 and 2012, is a front-engined V12 sports car known for its 6.0-liter engine, delivering 620 horsepower and 608Nm of torque. This powerful base allows the Hommage to achieve impressive performance figures, including a 0-100 kph sprint in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 330 kph.

The transformation process was nothing short of monumental, demanding over 15,000 hours of skilled labor. The entire bodywork was meticulously sculpted from aluminum and carbon fiber, resulting in a seamlessly integrated roofline that defines the Shooting Brake silhouette. Every external detail, from the redesigned nose that mirrors the original Daytona's sharp front end, to the full-width amber light bar and custom matte black headlights, has been carefully considered. The V12 engine cover features signature dual vents, while the rear boasts a carbon fiber diffuser and LED taillights, all faithfully echoing the iconic Chinetti design.

Inside, the cabin has been completely re-imagined. While subtle cues to the Ferrari 599 GTB's origins remain, such as the steering wheel controls, the interior is a world of bespoke luxury. Quilted leather seats provide ultimate comfort, and the gauge cluster has been repositioned to the center, a direct nod to the 1972 model. Carbon fiber accents replace the original walnut trim, adding a modern touch, and the luggage compartment, accessed via the striking gullwing doors, is sumptuously appointed with CNC-machined aluminum runners, additional carbon fiber, and fine leather.
