NYC Jewelry Week Unveils 2026 Edition: A Celebration of Craftsmanship
New York City Jewelry Week (NYCJW) is poised to launch its ninth annual celebration of the art of jewelry from November 16 to 22, 2026. This year's iteration promises a dynamic program with over 175 events, encompassing both physical venues throughout New York City and engaging online experiences. Centered around the theme of "Craftsmanship," the week-long festival is a key component of Handwork 2026, an initiative by the American Craft Council marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Attendees can anticipate a rich schedule of activities, all free and accessible to the public, designed to deepen understanding and appreciation for the intricate skills involved in jewelry making.
A notable addition to this year's program are live demonstrations that offer a rare glimpse into the meticulous processes of jewelry creation. These sessions will cover a wide array of techniques, from the precision of diamond cutting and the artistry of sculpting to the detailed work of chasing, polishing, sanding, and engraving. Highlights include immersive experiences such as "The Cut: Inside the Making of a Diamond" at Julius Klein Diamonds, collaborative workshops like "NYCJW x UrbanGlass: Handcrafted in Flame," and behind-the-scenes access with Pratt Institute Open Studios and GIA VIP Tours & CAD Work-Along sessions. These interactive events aim to bring the hidden artistry of jewelry making directly to the public.
The week's comprehensive agenda features an impressive lineup of talks, exhibitions, and unique experiences. On November 16, the Italian Trade Agency will host "Poetry in Craftsmanship: A Conversation with Lucrezia Buccellati," moderated by NYCJW founder Bella Neyman, at Spring Place. The following day, the Fashion Institute of Technology will be the venue for several insightful discussions, including "Swallows, Eagles and Navajo Jewelry Art: Robert Whitehair Begay" led by Melanie Grant, a panel on "10,000 Hours or What Drives Craft?" featuring Jamie Bennett, Marion Delarue, and Beau McCall, and a Jewelers Mutual presentation on "Forging the Future of Fine Jewelry," addressing the critical demand for new bench jewelers in the U.S.
From November 18 to 21, the Jewelers Mutual Studio in SoHo will transform into a vibrant hub, showcasing more than 100 pieces from student programs like the Future Jewelers Academy and Savannah College of Art & Design. This space will also host daily live demonstrations of engraving and stone-setting sponsored by Gesswein, alongside expert advice on jewelry care from Jewelers Mutual and the Jewelers Security Alliance, and a dedicated cleaning station by The Kingswood Company. For those unable to attend in person, virtual studio visits will provide global access to artists such as Makila Nsika in London, Lisa Walker in Wellington, New Zealand, and Joy Harvey and Marco Rossi in Italy.
NYCJW is also committed to nurturing emerging talent through various initiatives. The HERE WE ARE program will present the HWA Exhibition Award, sponsored by Marla Aaron, to Lauren Newton for her work, “Jewelry, Nature + the Art of Collecting,” exhibited at Paige Sargisson. The HWA High School Award, supported by Rio Grande, includes a $750 prize and a toolkit for aspiring young jewelers. Furthermore, the HWA Emerging Awards, sponsored by Halstead, will recognize Ghislaine Sabiti and Yard Sale Jewelry. The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts will contribute to the week's offerings with three distinct events, culminating in the Rock the Jewels fundraiser.
In conjunction with JA New York, NYCJW, Pratt Institute Fine Arts Jewelry, and Krainz Creations will unveil an exhibition centered on the Platinum Design DNA Competition. Additionally, a curated designer showcase featuring JA New York designers, assembled by Bella Neyman and Becky Stone, will be held at Heritage Auctions. Bella Neyman, the visionary behind NYC Jewelry Week, articulates the core mission: "Our aim is to enlighten consumers about the inherent value of a jewel, a value that extends beyond its material composition to encompass the mastery, expertise, and human touch that imbue it with life. By illuminating the craftsmanship, we guide individuals past the abstract notion of skilled creation to a genuine comprehension and appreciation of its splendor, intricacy, and significance." Jewelers Mutual serves as the presenting sponsor for this enriching event, with the complete schedule available at nycjewelryweek.com.
This year's NYC Jewelry Week promises an unparalleled exploration into the world of jewelry artistry, emphasizing the profound connection between creator and creation. Through a diverse range of educational and interactive experiences, the event seeks to foster a deeper appreciation for the skill, passion, and innovation that define contemporary jewelry. It's an opportunity for both industry professionals and the general public to engage with the beauty and complexity of handcrafted adornment, reinforcing the timeless allure of finely crafted jewels.
