Piaget Unveils Andy Warhol Camouflage Limited Edition Watch: A Fusion of Art and Horology
In a continued celebration of the enduring legacy of Andy Warhol, Piaget has once again partnered with the Andy Warhol Foundation to unveil a striking new timepiece. Following the impactful Piaget Andy Warhol Clou de Paris and the vibrant Collage edition from the previous year, this latest creation, the Andy Warhol Camouflage limited series, showcases Piaget's renowned expertise in ornamental stone dials. The design pays homage to Warhol's 1986 camouflage self-portraits, translating their distinctive abstract and colorful essence onto the watch face through an intricate arrangement of precious stones and gold.
Piaget's dedication to vibrant colors, unique materials, and bold statements resonates deeply with Andy Warhol's artistic philosophy. Warhol himself was a collector of Piaget watches, owning seven timepieces, including the iconic cushion-shaped reference 15102. This model, designed by Jean-Claude Gueit and produced between 1972 and 1977, was acquired by Warhol in 1973 and later became known as the Black Tie. In a significant move in 2024, and with the endorsement of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Piaget officially rebranded the model as the Andy Warhol Watch. The Andy Warhol Clou de Paris was launched in the same year, followed by the Piaget Andy Warhol Collage in 2025, which featured an exquisite combination of onyx, yellow Namibian serpentine, pink opal, and green chrysoprase. The fresh Camouflage edition retains the familiar case and movement but introduces a distinctly new visual narrative.
Warhol's 1986 camouflage self-portraits were more than just visually compelling; they delved into the complex interplay between fame and anonymity, simultaneously revealing and obscuring the artist's identity. For this new watch, Piaget reinterprets this artistic concept with an elaborate dial, masterfully combining two contrasting blue minerals: the deep hues of sodalite and the brighter tones of turquoise. These are complemented by pieces of satin-finished yellow gold and polished rose gold, creating a dynamic interplay of textures and reflections within the camouflage pattern. The dial, composed of 27 individual elements, showcases a three-dimensional effect that distinguishes it from a mere flat color arrangement. Dauphine-style hands gracefully indicate the hours and minutes, ensuring the intricate stone composition remains the focal point, with subtle 'Swiss-Made' lettering at 6 o'clock and the brand logo above the center. The exquisite dial is encased in the signature cushion-shaped, 45mm x 8.08mm, 18-carat white gold case with a rhodium finish, echoing the proportions and distinctive stepped gadroons of the Andy Warhol series. The solid caseback is elegantly engraved with Warhol's signature and the unique limited series number, affirming its exclusivity, with a water resistance of 30 meters. Powering this artistic creation is Piaget's in-house self-winding calibre 501P1, which is also featured in previous editions of the collection. Built upon the ultra-thin 430P base and adapted for automatic winding, it measures 3.63mm in thickness, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, and offers a 40-hour power reserve. The Piaget Andy Warhol Camouflage is presented on a luxurious blue alligator leather strap with a pin buckle. This exclusive timepiece is limited to just 86 pieces, a number chosen to commemorate the year Warhol created his iconic self-portraits. Its price is CHF 74,000.
