Ressence Type 11 and its RW-01 Movement: A New Era of Integrated Horology

Ressence is pushing the boundaries of watchmaking with the launch of its new Type 11, a timepiece that marks a significant leap forward for the brand. This innovative creation is distinguished by its inaugural fully integrated movement, the RW-01, developed in close collaboration with a Swiss manufacturer. Unlike its predecessors, which relied on modified ETA movements, the Type 11's engine is meticulously crafted to work in perfect harmony with Ressence's signature Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) module, promising enhanced precision and a more cohesive design.

The Ressence Type 11, with its distinct aesthetic, continues the brand's tradition of unique time-telling. Instead of conventional hands, the watch face employs a series of eccentric satellites that rotate to display hours, minutes, and running seconds, offering an intuitive and visually engaging way to read time. The 41mm Grade 5 titanium case, almost entirely polished, exudes modern elegance, while its compact lug-to-lug measurement of 45mm ensures comfortable wear on a variety of wrists. The slim 11mm profile, accentuated by a domed sapphire crystal, contributes to its pebble-like feel.

A standout feature of the Type 11 is its innovative power reserve indicator. Eschewing a traditional hand, it utilizes a chain of ceramic microballs in varying shades, providing a novel and visually striking method for monitoring the movement's energy. This thoughtful detail not only enhances functionality but also underscores Ressence's commitment to unconventional design. The RW-01 automatic movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, boasts 40 jewels, 67 gears, and 18 ball bearings, and delivers a robust 60-hour power reserve from its twin barrels. The design cleverly incorporates elements that echo the watch's satellite display, further integrating the movement with the dial's unique presentation. While primarily engineered for performance rather than overt display, a discreet sapphire window on the case back allows a glimpse of the oscillating rotor. The absence of a traditional crown, replaced by a lever on the case back for winding and time setting, maintains the watch's streamlined aesthetic and ensures water resistance up to 3 ATM.

The Type 11 is available in three captivating dial colors: Pine (green), Sky (blue), and Latte (beige). Each variant features a combination of grainy and brushed finishes, allowing the dials to interact dynamically with light and create a mesmerizing play of reflections. Buyers can select from a range of strap options, including leather, rubber, or a hybrid of both, with the added choice of a titanium Milanese mesh bracelet for those seeking a more integrated look. With a price point of CHF 23,000 (excluding VAT), the Ressence Type 11 is positioned as a premium offering in the luxury watch market. Its debut at Watches and Wonders Geneva will undoubtedly be a highlight for enthusiasts eager to experience this blend of inventive mechanics and striking design firsthand.

This innovative timepiece represents a significant milestone for Ressence, signifying a new chapter in its quest for horological distinction. The development of the RW-01 movement, specifically tailored to the brand's unique display system, solidifies Ressence's position as a pioneer in contemporary watchmaking. The Type 11's blend of refined aesthetics, advanced engineering, and a fresh approach to time indication marks it as a truly exceptional addition to the world of high-end watches.
