Ressence Type 9 Unveils New Art Watch Collaboration with Jules Wittock

Ressence, known for its innovative approach to watchmaking, has once again fused horology with art through a compelling collaboration. This time, the brand has partnered with Belgian artist Jules Wittock to create a distinctive iteration of its Type 9 watch. Wittock's signature maze motifs, typically found on large-scale canvases and sculptures, now adorn the dial of this limited-edition timepiece, transforming a functional object into a wearable work of art. This partnership highlights the ongoing conversation about where the boundaries of watchmaking end and artistic expression begins, offering a fresh perspective on both.

Ressence Type 9 Jules Wittock: A Canvas of Time and Art

The latest artistic endeavor from Ressence introduces the Type 9 Jules Wittock, a timepiece that serves as a miniature canvas for the Brussels-based artist. The watch, based on the Type 9 model launched in late 2024, features a 39mm Grade 5 titanium case with an 11mm profile. Its polished case and circularly brushed fixed bezel provide a refined frame for Wittock's intricate designs.

At the heart of the Type 9 is a modified automatic ETA 2892-2 movement, which powers Ressence's proprietary ROCS 9 module. This mechanism, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 31 jewels and a 36-hour power reserve, is set and wound by rotating the case back, a signature feature of Ressence watches. The case back itself is not merely functional but also incorporates another of Wittock's mazes, complete with his personal signature, adding an exclusive artistic touch.

Collectors have the option of two striking versions: one with a black PVD-coated case and dial, and another with an emerald green ALD-coated dial. Both versions feature white engravings for the maze and hour markers. The green dial boasts a unique iridescent quality, subtly shifting in color depending on the viewing angle, reminiscent of mother-of-pearl. The maze, deeply engraved into the Grade 5 titanium dial, is meticulously hand-filled with white lacquer and Grade A Super-LumiNova, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and readability.

A playful element of Wittock's design is that each maze has a hidden word, which the new owner is tasked with discovering. While Wittock's larger works often provide clues through their titles, the Type 9 leaves this discovery entirely to the wearer, fostering an interactive experience with the artwork. The maze’s entrance and exit points are subtly indicated on the bezel, with the full alignment of the dial's path occurring precisely at noon and midnight.

This limited-edition release comprises 60 pieces in total, with 30 units available in each color variant. The black version is presented on a black calf leather strap, while the emerald green counterpart comes paired with a white calf leather strap. Each timepiece is priced at CHF 20,000 (excluding taxes) and can be acquired through Ressence's official channels and its network of retail partners.
