Serica Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer: Compact Design Meets Rugged Durability

Serica introduces its latest creation, the Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer, a remarkable timepiece that defies contemporary expectations of watch size and durability. While many modern robust watches tend to be large, Serica's new offering embraces a more traditional 35mm diameter, reminiscent of vintage field watches like those from the 'Dirty Dozen' era. This design choice highlights the brand's commitment to proving that smaller watches can be just as, if not more, resilient and functional, catering to those who appreciate a blend of classic aesthetics and cutting-edge performance.

Building upon its reputation for retro-inspired sports watches, Serica, founded by Jérôme Burgert and Gabriel Vachette, expands its iconic field watch collection. The 7505 Field Chronometer is not merely a scaled-down version of its 6190 predecessor; it boasts unique design elements and robust specifications. Despite its compact 35mm diameter and slender 9.6mm thickness, the watch maintains a substantial presence on the wrist, thanks to its thoughtfully engineered proportions including short lugs and a prominent stepped bezel. This sophisticated design ensures that wearers experience a visually larger impression than the dimensions suggest, particularly noted by an individual with a smaller wrist, who felt the watch appeared 2 to 3mm larger than its actual size.

The meticulous construction of the Serica 7505 underscores its unwavering commitment to durability. Featuring a screw-down crown and a solid steel case back, the watch is engineered to withstand demanding conditions, offering an impressive 200-meter water resistance. A double-domed sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating further enhances its ruggedness and legibility. Distinguishing itself from the larger 6190 model, the 7505’s case incorporates curved inner lugs and a uniquely designed stepped bezel with polished sides and vertically-brushed top surfaces. This bezel is adorned with half-spheres that ingeniously extend the dial’s cardinal markers, adding a distinctive visual flair.

Functionality and aesthetic appeal converge in the watch's dial variations. The Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer comes with three distinct, unsigned dials, all featuring a lustrous enamel-like finish. Two of these options present a novel "minute critical" military-style design available in classic black or a subtle olive green. These dials prioritize immediate readability and strong contrast with their luminous painted markers, embodying the quintessential field watch functionality. The third dial variant, a carry-over from the 6190 TXD, showcases an elegant two-tone beige and black "tuxedo" layout, complemented by hand-applied luminous markers. Across all models, the hands are crafted from brushed steel, featuring broad-arrow elements generously coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility in low-light conditions.

Powering the Serica 7505 is the reliable Soprod M100 automatic movement, a COSC-certified chronometer, which ensures precision and consistent performance. This movement operates at a frequency of 4Hz and provides a 42-hour power reserve, aligning perfectly with the watch’s ethos of dependability and practicality. Complementing the watch's robust case and precise movement is a redesigned Bonklip steel bracelet. This bracelet features curved end-pieces, spring bars, and squared polished links, culminating in a secure and easily adjustable new Safe-Lock clasp, ensuring comfort and peace of mind for the wearer.

The Serica Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer is a testament to the fact that exceptional robustness and elegant design can coexist in a compact form. Its 35mm diameter not only pays homage to historical watch sizes but also offers a comfortable and stylish alternative to the prevailing trend of oversized timepieces. This model provides both durability and a classic aesthetic, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a field watch that stands out for its thoughtful design and reliable performance.
