Studio Underd0g and Ahmed Seddiqi Unveil 'Chan3ad' 03SERIES Chronograph
Studio Underd0g, a British independent watchmaker known for its vibrant and imaginative designs, has once again captured attention with its latest collaboration. Partnering with Ahmed Seddiqi, a prominent luxury retailer in the UAE and organizer of Dubai Watch Week, the brand has launched the 'Chan3ad' 03SERIES chronograph. This exclusive timepiece draws its inspiration from the kingfish, or 'chan3ad,' a revered and culturally significant species in the Arabian Gulf. The watch's distinctive aesthetic, with its unique color palette and intricate dial details, is a testament to this marine influence.
The 'Chan3ad' chronograph maintains the characteristic dimensions of the 03SERIES, featuring a 38.5mm diameter stainless steel case, a 13.6mm thickness, and a lug-to-lug measurement of 44.5mm. The construction comprises three parts, including a screwed display caseback and a signed crown. A single rectangular pusher at 2 o'clock controls all chronograph functions. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch boasts a water resistance of 50 meters, ensuring durability and functionality for everyday wear.
A standout feature of the 'Chan3ad' is its two-layer dial, which, while reminiscent of the 'Salm0n' edition, incorporates distinct elements. The upper layer showcases a blue-grey dégradé finish, artfully designed to mimic the iridescent scales of the kingfish, while the lower layer reveals a subtle pale pink hue, mirroring the fish's flesh. Eastern Arabic numerals adorn both the tachymeter scale and the subdials, adding a regional touch. The dial layout includes an oversized 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, running seconds at 9 o'clock, and central hour, minute, and chronograph seconds hands. The yellow tips on the chronograph hands are a thoughtful nod to the lemon often served alongside the fish, underscoring the watch's thematic coherence.
At the heart of the 'Chan3ad' lies a customized Sellita SW510-M monopusher chronograph movement. This manually wound, cam-operated caliber, derived from the Valjoux 7750, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a substantial 63-hour power reserve. For this special edition, the movement is enhanced with a bespoke ruthenium anthracite-finished bridge and exquisite Côte de Genève decorations, visible through the display caseback, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship involved.
The watch is complemented by a black salmon leather strap, sourced from Iceland, measuring 20/16mm and equipped with quick-release spring bars. This strap is secured by a stainless steel pin buckle, with an additional Milanese mesh bracelet provided for versatility. The 'Chan3ad' is a limited edition, with only 100 pieces available globally. Each timepiece is assembled at Studio Underd0g's D0ghouse facility in Great Britain, ensuring high standards of quality and precision. Exclusively available through Ahmed Seddiqi boutiques from September 17, 2026, the watch is priced at AED 9,600, approximately EUR 2,300, making it a desirable acquisition for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
This collaboration exemplifies the successful fusion of playful design with high-quality watchmaking, offering a unique narrative inspired by regional culture and marine life. The 'Chan3ad' chronograph is not merely a timekeeping instrument but a wearable piece of art that celebrates both horological artistry and cultural heritage, appealing to those who appreciate distinctive aesthetics and intricate mechanical movements.
