Studio Underd0g Unveils Enhanced 02Series Gen 2 Watches

Studio Underd0g, a notable British microbrand renowned for its distinctive approach to dial design and construction, has launched an upgraded version of its 02Series time-only field watch. This second-generation release brings several notable enhancements, aiming to refine the user experience and expand the aesthetic appeal of the collection.

A key improvement in the new 02Series is a reduction in case thickness. The updated models now feature an 11.5mm case, a half-millimeter decrease from the previous 12mm. This seemingly modest adjustment contributes to a more streamlined profile on the wrist. The overall case dimensions are 37.5mm in diameter with a 46mm lug-to-lug distance. This thoughtful re-proportioning is designed to ensure a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The brand's recent acquisition and transformation of the assembly workshop Horologium into its in-house facility, now known as The D0ghouse, played a crucial role in achieving these tighter tolerances and bringing the dial closer to the crystal, enhancing visual depth.

The internal mechanics have also seen an upgrade. The previous Sellita SW210 movement has been replaced with the Sellita SW200-2 M Power+. This new caliber significantly boosts the power reserve from 42 hours to a more robust 63 hours. Consistent with the first generation, the movement remains manually wound, with the rotor removed to maintain this traditional winding experience.

The distinctive layered dial, characterized by a suspended sapphire disc over a metallic base plate, has undergone several design modifications. The minutes track on the upper sapphire disc has been subtly repositioned inward, necessitating shorter hands that complement the refreshed layout. Furthermore, the text at the six o'clock position has been updated from "Mechanical Hand-Winding" to "Assembled in Great Britain," emphasizing the brand's increased commitment to in-house assembly. The color palette has been refreshed as well, with the introduction of two vivid new options: Nightshade, a sunray-brushed purple with red-tinted accents, and Red L0lly, a vibrant cherry-red. Both new colors achieve their intensity through the tinting of the upper sapphire disc. Fan favorites Pink Lem0nade and Steffany Blue will continue to be available.

These comprehensive enhancements to the 02Series Gen 2, while individually subtle, collectively offer a significantly improved timepiece.
