TAG Heuer Enhances Monaco Chronograph with Three New Titanium Models
TAG Heuer is reintroducing its distinguished Monaco Chronograph, presenting three fresh iterations that incorporate Grade 5 titanium cases. These new timepieces are designed to offer enhanced comfort and a refined aesthetic, drawing significantly from the visual heritage of the 1969 original, notably its unique dial configurations and overall style.
The Monaco Chronograph, celebrated for its bold square form factor, has been a cornerstone of TAG Heuer's collection since its resurgence in 1997. Recognizing the inherent challenges and distinct appeal of its signature case, the brand has meticulously re-engineered the new models to optimize ergonomics and wearability. This thoughtful update ensures that the watches not only respect their iconic past but also meet modern standards for comfort.
Each of the three new variants boasts a 39mm case, maintaining the dimensions of the most recent Monaco edition. However, this is where direct similarities end. TAG Heuer emphasizes a complete overhaul of the case architecture, focusing on sharper angles, a more pronounced square crystal, and subtly curved case sides. The caseback has been streamlined, with its center gently sloping towards the edges, contributing to a more balanced feel on the wrist. Additionally, the crown's unconventional left-sided placement, a nod to the original movement's design, is preserved and highlighted, further reinforcing the collection's historical ties.
Beyond the external refinements, the new Monaco Chronographs feature updated dial designs that prioritize legibility and visual clarity. Powering these models is the TH20-11 caliber, an evolution of TAG Heuer's in-house TH20-00 movement. This new caliber is specifically configured for the Monaco’s bicompax layout, showcasing running seconds, a 30-minute totalizer, and a distinctive date aperture at 6 o'clock. Named in homage to the original Caliber 11, the TH20-11 movement offers an impressive 80-hour power reserve and is backed by an extended 5-year warranty, signifying a notable enhancement in quality.
The collection offers diverse aesthetic choices: a sophisticated black dial accented with a rose gold bezel, a striking green dial variant, and a classic blue dial reminiscent of the Ref.1133 famously worn by Steve McQueen. While the black dial with rose gold is priced at $13,050, the green and blue dial models are available at $9,350. These incremental yet significant improvements underscore TAG Heuer's commitment to refining an enduring classic, positioning the Monaco Chronograph as a timeless piece that continues to evolve with the times.
