Universal Genève is making a strong comeback with its new "Signature Timepieces" collection, showcasing modern renditions of its classic Disco Volante and Dioramic models. These limited-edition watches reflect the brand's shift towards an ultra-luxury market, blending historical aesthetics with contemporary watchmaking excellence. The collection features two distinct models, each available in both stainless steel and rose gold, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts alike. This strategic move aims to highlight Universal Genève's rich heritage while embracing advanced horological craftsmanship.

The collection revives the spirit of two iconic models: the Disco Volante and the Dioramic. The Disco Volante, a sophisticated chronograph, reimagines the distinctive "flying saucer" shape with a slightly reduced modern size, retaining its unique character. The Dioramic, a refined time-and-date watch, places a significant emphasis on its intricate case design and elegant dial, drawing inspiration from its historical predecessor, the Monodatic. Both models feature meticulously crafted movements and luxurious materials, reinforcing Universal Genève's commitment to high-end watchmaking.

The Rebirth of the Disco Volante: A Modern Chronograph

Universal Genève's new Disco Volante chronograph is a contemporary take on a vintage icon, blending its distinctive "flying saucer" aesthetic with modern specifications. This piece showcases a generous 45mm diameter, featuring a stepped case and a polished inner bezel that echoes its 1930s Uni-Compax heritage. The watch is powered by the UG-200 column-wheel, vertical clutch, and automatic chronograph movement, visible through a sapphire caseback. Available in rose gold with a matching grained texture dial or steel with a blue dial, both versions offer excellent wearability due to their lugless design and 45mm lug-to-lug measurement, paired with a comfortable alligator leather strap. The Disco Volante reintroduces a bold design for a modern era, offering a statement piece for enthusiasts of sophisticated chronographs.

Inspired by oversized Uni-Compax models from the 1930s, the Disco Volante embraces a lugless case, sized at 45mm, which is notably smaller than its historical counterparts. The dial features applied round indexes, a tachymeter scale, and two sub-registers for running seconds and a 30-minute counter, all complemented by minimal branding. The watch's design is further enhanced by squared-off pushers and a knurled crown, thoughtfully integrated into the stepped case. The UG-200 movement, beating at 4Hz and offering 72 hours of power reserve, ensures precision and reliability. With prices set at CHF 44,100 for the rose gold and CHF 25,500 for the steel variant, these timepieces are positioned as exclusive offerings in the ultra-luxury segment, promising both historical appeal and high horological value.

The Dioramic Signature: Elegance in Time and Date

The Dioramic Signature model emphasizes refined aesthetics and intricate case design, drawing inspiration from the 1956 Monodatic (later renamed Dioramic). This time-and-date watch features a 37mm case, with its standout element being the concentric fluted bezel that beautifully frames either a black-lacquered dial for the rose gold version or a blue dial for the steel model. The absence of a seconds hand enhances its dress watch appeal, while a unique round cutout date window at 6 o'clock and polished twisted lugs add distinctive character. This model is a testament to the brand’s focus on sophisticated design and subtle details, creating a truly elegant timepiece.

The Dioramic Signature comes with an 18mm-wide alligator strap, available in brown for the rose gold model and blue for the steel version, each complemented by a matching folding buckle. Powering these exquisite watches is Universal Genève's in-house micro-rotor twin-barrel UG-110 movement, which operates at 4Hz and provides a generous 72-hour power reserve. Priced at CHF 40,425 for the rose gold and CHF 20,000 for the steel, these watches are positioned to appeal to discerning collectors who appreciate both heritage and modern luxury. The Dioramic Signature successfully blends historical charm with contemporary elegance, making it a distinguished addition to any collection.
