The venerable IWC Portugieser Chronograph, a design that has seen minimal visual alteration since its inception in 1998, receives a significant transformation with the introduction of its Ceratanium variant. For years, this iconic timepiece, which underwent a technical enhancement in 2020 to incorporate a manufacture calibre, has been celebrated for its consistent sporty-chic and maritime-inspired appeal, primarily available in steel or precious metals. This year, IWC breaks tradition by cloaking its emblematic chronograph in an all-black technical presentation, utilizing the advanced Ceratanium material for the very first time in this collection.

The new Ceratanium version (reference IW371631) maintains the well-known proportions of the Portugieser Chronograph, boasting a 41mm diameter and a 13mm thickness. Its case, crown, pushers, and caseback are all meticulously crafted from matte Ceratanium. This unique material offers the lightweight and robust qualities of titanium alongside the exceptional hardness and scratch resistance akin to ceramic, achieved through a high-temperature firing process of a specialized titanium alloy. The signature dark, metallic finish of Ceratanium, previously seen primarily in IWC's Pilot's Watch collection, now defines the Portugieser Chronograph's aesthetic. A tinted sapphire caseback complements the stealthy look.

The all-black theme extends to the dial, featuring a matte black base adorned with black printings, hands, and hour markers.
