IWC is honoring the 50th anniversary of the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, a design by the legendary Gérald Genta. The brand has released two exclusive monochromatic stainless steel watches, available in 35mm and 40mm sizes, to commemorate this iconic timepiece's half-century mark.

Genta's Influence: A Design Icon's Enduring Impact

Gérald Genta first introduced the Ingenieur SL in 1976, during a period when he was also creating other renowned luxury steel sports watches like Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak and Patek Philippe's Nautilus. Despite a slow start in sales, with only 598 pieces produced until 1983, the Ingenieur SL has since become highly sought after by collectors, solidifying its place in watchmaking history.

Contemporary Echoes of a Classic Design

The new Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary and Ingenieur Automatic 35 50th Anniversary models continue the lineage of their predecessors, retaining signature elements like the functional screws and classic bezel. Diverging from the usual grid-patterned dial, these new editions feature a distinctive vertically brushed silver-plated finish, reminiscent of a rare vintage variant. The dials are further enhanced with rhodium-plated hands, Super-LumiNova hour markers, and a subtle '50' inscription at 6 o'clock to denote the anniversary.

Precision Engineering: The Heart of the Anniversary Editions

The 40mm Ingenieur Automatic is powered by the IWC-manufactured Caliber 32111, boasting an impressive 120-hour power reserve and a solid caseback for magnetic field protection. The 35mm version houses the IWC Caliber 47110, visible through a sapphire-crystal caseback, offering a 42-hour power reserve. These movements underscore IWC's commitment to both historical design and mechanical excellence.

Both anniversary models feature the Ingenieur's iconic integrated steel bracelet; the 40mm model showcases a satin finish, while the 35mm variant includes polished middle links. Limited to 1,150 pieces each, these collectible timepieces are priced at $15,000 for the 40mm and $12,900 for the 35mm, offering enthusiasts a rare chance to own a piece of watchmaking history.
