A. Lange & Söhne Introduces New, Smaller 1815 Up/Down Models

A. Lange & Söhne, renowned for its exceptional watchmaking, has unveiled two new additions to its 1815 Up/Down series. These exquisite timepieces represent a subtle shift towards a more refined, smaller diameter, marking a significant moment for enthusiasts of the brand's intricate designs and horological excellence. Crafted in white and pink gold, these models feature captivating dark blue dials, offering a contemporary twist to a classic collection.

The latest 1815 Up/Down models boast a case diameter of 37.5mm, a notable reduction from the previous 39mm iterations, and a slender profile of just 8.7mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 45mm. This smaller size harks back to a limited edition released in 2006, demonstrating the brand's thoughtful approach to design evolution. The cases are rendered in luxurious 18K white gold and 18K pink gold, providing a stunning contrast to the deep blue of the dials. Each dial is meticulously constructed from 925 silver, featuring two silver-hued sub-dials positioned at the 4 and 8 o’clock marks. One sub-dial is dedicated to the running seconds, while the other proudly displays the characteristic “AB/AUF” power reserve indicator, a hallmark of Lange's innovative spirit. This indicator clearly shows the watch’s status, with a red segment signaling the final six hours of its impressive 72-hour power reserve.

Attention to detail extends to the dial's intricate elements. A finely crafted railroad-minute track graces the periphery, punctuated by triple-dot markers at the quarter hours and single dots for the intervening ones. The brand's name is subtly integrated, mirroring the curvature of the recessed central dial, a design cue drawn from historical Lange pocket watches. The central hour and minute hands are fashioned from the same precious metal as the case, while the hands within the sub-dials are rendered in blued steel, adding a touch of visual distinction. Flipping the watch reveals the heart of these masterpieces: the L051.2 manufacture caliber. This manually wound movement comprises 245 components, beating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz) and featuring 29 jewels. As expected from A. Lange & Söhne, the German silver plates and bridges are adorned with Glashütte stripes and perlage, and the hand-engraved balance cock further exemplifies the brand's commitment to superlative finishing.
