This launch marks a notable shift in the brand's strategy, demonstrating a newfound blend of historical appreciation and technological advancement. The new model is a modern homage to the exceptionally rare and complex Reference 8171 "Padellone" Triple Calendar Moonphase from 1949, a vintage icon known for its elegant design and intricate complications, now officially recognized by its affectionate nickname. This release stands out not only for its timing but also for its incorporation of an annual calendar, moonphase display, and an innovative Dynapulse escapement, housed within a vintage-inspired dress watch.

The original Rolex Reference 8171 Triple Calendar Moonphase, affectionately known as the "Padellone" (Italian for "large frying pan" due to its significant 38mm diameter for the era), holds a unique position in Rolex's storied past.
