Jun 09, 2026, 12:15 PM

Blancpain, a renowned name in luxury watchmaking, has unveiled a significant expansion of its iconic Fifty Fathoms collection with the introduction of the new Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A. This professional-grade dive watch is a direct evolution of the Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa, first launched in 2023, and is specifically tailored to meet the rigorous demands of closed-circuit rebreather divers and intrepid underwater explorers. The new iteration integrates a practical date display and a highly versatile interchangeable strap system, making it a more universal tool for both professional and recreational use while maintaining its core focus on extended underwater capabilities.

Blancpain's Latest Dive Watch: The Fifty Fathoms Tech Date Ref. 5019A Debuts

In a notable move for the diving watch community, Blancpain has officially launched the Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A, a watch designed to push the boundaries of underwater exploration. This latest model builds on the groundbreaking innovations of the 2023 Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa, a watch renowned for its patented three-hour diving bezel. Unlike traditional dive watches, which typically feature a 60-minute bezel, the Fifty Fathoms Tech is equipped with a specialized mechanism that allows a dedicated hand to complete a full rotation every three hours. This critical feature caters to the growing number of technical divers and scientists who utilize rebreather systems, enabling them to remain submerged for extended periods—often several hours—a significant departure from conventional diving limits.

The watch's impressive capabilities are housed within a robust 47mm diameter, 14.81mm thick case crafted from Grade 23 titanium, a material known for its exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. This large case, featuring a distinctive central lug construction, ensures durability and comfort. The watch is water-resistant to an impressive 300 meters and includes a helium escape valve, essential for saturation diving. The unidirectional rotating bezel, with its black ceramic insert and luminous white markings, works in conjunction with the three-hour hand to provide intuitive and accurate tracking of prolonged bottom times, a system initially developed in collaboration with acclaimed underwater explorer Laurent Ballesta and the Gombessa Expeditions team.

Visibility, a paramount concern for divers, is addressed through Blancpain's innovative "Absolute Black" dial surface treatment, which absorbs up to 97% of ambient light, minimizing reflections and maximizing legibility in challenging underwater environments. To further enhance functionality, the watch employs a dual Super-LumiNova luminescence system: blue-emission for all critical diving indications, including the three-hour hand and bezel scale, and green-emission for standard timekeeping elements like the block-shaped applied indices and cardinal numerals. Powering this intricate timepiece is the manufacture calibre 13P5A, an automatic movement derived from Blancpain's reliable calibre 1315. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and comprising 226 components with 35 jewels, it boasts an impressive five-day power reserve thanks to its triple-barrel construction. The integration of a date display further enhances its practicality for daily wear, beyond its primary diving function.

Adding to its versatility, the new Fifty Fathoms Tech features a redesigned strap attachment system, allowing for tool-free strap changes. It comes with an eye-catching orange rubber strap, with additional black and white rubber strap options available separately. Positioned as a permanent fixture in the Fifty Fathoms collection, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A is available for CHF 20,500.

This latest offering from Blancpain exemplifies the brand's unwavering commitment to innovation and its deep-rooted connection to the world of underwater exploration. By refining an already advanced technical diving instrument and making it more accessible for everyday use through features like the date display and interchangeable straps, Blancpain not only reinforces its legacy but also sets new benchmarks for what a professional dive watch can achieve. It's a testament to how specialized, high-performance tools can be elegantly adapted to broader audiences without compromising their original intent or capability, inviting more enthusiasts to experience the blend of robust engineering and refined craftsmanship.
